Dr Trina Gilbert
MD FRACP FRCPC PhD BSc
​Consultant Endocrinologist

Dr Trina Gilbert is relatively new to Melbourne and excited to be part of the endocrine community here. She completed a bachelor of science degree in biological sciences and chemistry at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada, before moving to Vancouver to pursue a molecular biology based PhD in lipid metabolism at the University of British Columbia. She remained at UBC for her medical degree and specialty training in internal medicine. Following this she went on to complete a fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at the University of Calgary in Calgary, Canada, after which she worked as a consultant in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology & Metabolism with Alberta Health Services. In 2012 she relocated to Melbourne and undertook further fellowship training in general endocrinology at The Alfred Hospital.

Dr Gilbert is a Fellow of both The Royal College of Physicians of Canada and The Royal Australasian College of Physicians. She has also been awarded Subspecialty Certification in Endocrinology & Metabolism from The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Her PhD research in lipid metabolism has been recognized by highly regarded international organizations, including the American Heart Association, which awarded her the prestigious New Investigator and Junior Investigator Awards.  More recently, she's been involved in elucidating the causes of islet transplant failure and the effect of kidney disease on bone density and architecture.  She maintains a strong commitment to educating medical students and trainees and has received numerous awards for her contributions to medical education.
Dr Gilbert is extensively trained in all areas of endocrinology and has a special interest in thyroid, parathyroid, pituitary, adrenal, hypogonadism/amenorrhea, and osteoporosis. She accepts referrals from GPs and specialists for all endocrine conditions. She's currently employed with Alfred Health and is in private practice at Epworth Hospital, Richmond and the Berwick Specialist Centre in Berwick. Urgent appointments are available.
